Canyon Creek OHV Trail + Horseshoe Creek OHV Trail Loop
Canyon Creek Trail + Horseshoe Creek Trail is an approximately 17.2 mile off-road loop route located east of Gunnison, Colorado (this route is a composite of the two trails in its name). Beginning at Canyon Creek Trailhead, the single track, dirt/rock surface route follows Canyon Creek to the northwest before slowly curving alongside it to the northeast, providing a view of Stella Mountain to the east. After directly approaching the 12,398ft summit of Granite Mountain, the route transfers to the south via Horseshoe Creek Trail 482 before passing the 12,529ft summit of Stella Mountain. Further south, the route descends alongside Horseshoe Creek before rejoining Canyon Creek Trail and terminating back at Canyon Creek Trailhead. Canyon Creek Trail + Horseshoe Creek Trail provides riders with a medium-length option for technical single track riding in the Gunnison National Forest, that also provides excellent scenery and many vantage points of the surrounding 12,000ft+ mountain summits. In terms of difficulty the route is rated as “Hard”. Due to the challenging terrain involved, it is recommended that only motorcycles with adequate off-road capability attempt this route. Canyon Creek Trail + Horseshoe Creek Trail is a seasonally restricted route, and is usually impassable to wheeled vehicles during the winter, spring, and sometimes into the early summer. It is recommended to check current conditions with the local USFS district office prior to taking on this route. All vehicles must remain on designated roads and trails.
