Tincup Pass OHV Trail
Tincup Pass Trail is an approximately 11.9 mile point-to-point off-road route located southeast of Crested Butte, Colorado. Beginning in the town of Tincup on Mirror Lake Road 267 and ending in the neighboring town of St. Elmo, the route follows a dirt/rock trail (wide enough to accommodate most 4X4 vehicles) from a starting elevation of 10,157ft to a maximum elevation of 12,154ft, before descending into St. Elmo, a historic ghost town that stands at 9,961ft. Tincup Pass Trail provides the opportunity to enjoy picturesque alpine scenery as well as exciting off-road terrain as you travel between the two historic mountain towns of Tincup and St. Elmo. In terms of difficulty the route is rated as “Moderate-Difficult”. The most difficult (and narrowest) section of the route, Old Tin Cup Jeep Trail 267.3D, can be bypassed by remaining on Mirror Lake Road 267 as you approach Tincup Pass. Due to the terrain involved, it is recommended that only vehicles with adequate off-road capability attempt this trail. Tincup Pass Trail is a seasonally restricted route, and is usually impassable to wheeled vehicles during the winter, spring, and sometimes into the early summer. It is recommended to check current conditions with the local USFS district office prior to taking on this route. All vehicles must remain on designated roads and trails.
